Apprenticeships and domestic internships

Learn about the rules of domestic internships at the Academy of Hotel Management and Catering Industry in Poznan.

We know that success on the job market, especially in the hotel and catering industry, depends largely on the skills and experience gained during studies. Hence the emphasis in our curriculum on multi-month apprenticeships, thanks to which WSHiG graduates are readily employed in Polish and foreign tourist resorts, restaurants and hotels.

Below you will find basic information about the type and duration of work placements that are obligatory for WSHiG students.

Internships are obligatory for WSHiG students

Full-time and part-time I and II degree students are obliged to do internships in accordance with their specialization. Part-time students who work in an industry related to the studied specialization can settle the internship on the basis of an employment contract.

Duration of internships

The duration of the internship depends on the year and mode of study and is as follows :

  • 4 weeks in the first year– this is the duration of the internship, which is obligatory for students of the first year of full-time studies. It is a necessary condition to pass the first year of studies, but also an authorization to possibly go on a foreign internship.
  • 6 months of professional practice at first degree level - each student should have a minimum of 6 months of professional practice (only domestic or domestic and foreign) within three years of studies.
  • 3 months of the internship on the II degree- on the II degree studies each student should prove minimum 3 months of the professional practice within two years of studies

Credit for internships

Professional internships are credited during the summer examination session. In order to receive credit for the internship, the student should document the completion of min. one month on I,II and IV year of studies. The remaining months of the internship can be completed during the summer vacation or in the last year of studies.

Purpose of the internship

During the internship students become familiar with catering and hotel business. They learn the characteristics of the technological processes specific to a given facility, its organizational structure and the legal basis for the operation of the company, as well as a detailed description of the work specific to the operation of a catering and hotel facility (e.g. operation of machinery, equipment, hardware, computer programs, etc.) and the system of quality control and management and health safety of food produced.

Rules of the Training Program

Detailed information about the internship can be found in the Rules and Regulations of Student Internships in Poznań (available in the Internship Department) or online here.

Organization of Internships

Students may take advantage of the Academy's assistance in organising a domestic internship by contacting the Internship Department. Most often, however, they choose to work in hotels, travel agencies or catering establishments near their place of residence.

In order to be approved for a month-long exemption from classes for the purpose of the internship, completed documents must be submitted to the Academy:
